Valid FAQPage JSON-LD on every visible thread — rich results without touching a template.

Adds one thing to your board: structured data Google can actually read. On visible thread pages it injects a Schema.org FAQPage block — the thread subject becomes the Question, the opening post (BBCode stripped, entities decoded, capped at 500 characters) becomes the Answer.

What you get:

• Rich-result eligibility for question-shaped threads in search.
• Zero template edits, zero custom database tables. One switch, in Configuration > Settings, turns the output off without deactivating.
• JSON encoded with JSON_UNESCAPED_SLASHES | JSON_UNESCAPED_UNICODE, so links, accents and emoji survive intact.
• Runs only on showthread.php for visible threads. The index and every non-thread page are left alone.

Tested on MyBB 1.8.38 / PHP 8.3.24 / MariaDB 11.8.6. Deactivate and uninstall takes the setting and its group with it — nothing is left behind to clean up.

What's included

Requirements

  • MyBB 1.8.x — the series this release is built for (1.8.38 for the ones we re-tested).
  • PHP 7.4 or newer (8.x is fine).

Install it

1. Copy inc/plugins/dffaqschema.php, the inc/plugins/dffaqschema/ folder and inc/languages/english/dffaqschema.lang.php from the archive into your board, keeping the same paths.
2. Admin CP -> Configuration -> Plugins -> DF FAQ Schema -> Install & Activate.
3. Optional: Configuration -> Settings -> DF FAQ Schema has a switch that stops the output without deactivating.
4. Open a visible thread and view the page source: one FAQPage JSON-LD block sits in the head. The board index, forum lists and invisible threads get none.
5. To remove it: Deactivate, then Uninstall. The setting and its group go with it.

Questions people ask

Does it create database tables?

No. It reads what the platform already stores, so there is nothing to migrate or clean up.

Does it edit templates or core files?

No. It runs from hooks, so no core file is modified.

How do I check the file I downloaded?

Every release page prints a SHA-256 checksum. Hash the archive locally and compare — if the two differ, the download is damaged, not the release.

How are updates delivered?

Each version is its own release on this page with a changelog, and the older archive stays available. Install the new one over the old one; your settings and data stay where they are.

Two output bugs fixed. A subject stored as How do I &quot;restore&quot; ... reached the JSON-LD with the HTML entity intact; entities are now decoded. A single bad byte in an old post could make json_encode() return false and silently drop the block; JSON_INVALID_UTF8_SUBSTITUTE now covers that. Threads with no subject, or an opening post that strips to nothing, no longer emit a half-built FAQPage.

Proven on a clean MyBB 1.8.38 / PHP 8.3.24 / MariaDB 11.8.6 install: one JSON-LD block in the head of a real thread and none on the index, on forumdisplay or on an invisible thread; the JSON parses with the emoji and the quotes intact; the switch turns output off and on; uninstall leaves no rows.
