[hide] tags that reveal themselves to members who replied — the gentlest paywall a forum has.
Content inside a hide tag is visible to the people who took part and locked to everyone else. It is the oldest conversion tool in forum software, and it still works because it asks for something small.
What it gives you:
• Wrap anything in [hide]...[/hide] and only members who have replied in that thread see it. Guests and drive-by readers get a polite lock card instead.
• The thread starter and staff are always exempt, so nobody has to reply to their own thread to read it.
• One reply unlocks it permanently for that member — the mask flips to the content the moment their reply lands.
• Truly zero-install: no tables, no settings page, no configuration. Activate it and every existing hide tag on the board starts working.
• Non-destructive by design: the raw tag survives untouched in the editor and the database, so deactivating restores plain text exactly as it was.
This is the 2.0 line, rebuilt as a versioned release from the deployed source; the original 1.x archive was not recoverable.

Requirements
- MyBB 1.8.40 is the tested target.
- PHP 8.1 or newer (runtime tested on 8.4.26).
- Nothing else. It reads the reply count of the thread the reader is looking at.

1. Back up your files and database first.
2. Upload the inc/ folder from the archive into your MyBB root, keeping the paths.

What do guests see instead of the content?
A polite lock card explaining that replying unlocks it — never a broken or empty post.
Do I have to reply to my own thread to read my own hidden content?
No. The thread starter and staff are always exempt.
If I deactivate the plugin, do I lose the hidden text?
No. The original tags are untouched in the database, so deactivating simply shows them as plain text again.
