Hover a thread title and see what is inside before you commit to opening it.
Reading a forum is a series of small decisions about which links are worth a click. Peek answers those decisions in place, without leaving the page.
What it gives you:
• Hovering any thread link on a forum listing, in search results or in subscriptions brings up a floating card with the title, author, date, reply and view counts, and a plain-text snippet of the first post.
• One indexed JSON endpoint serves peeks, and each thread is fetched at most once per page view thanks to client-side caching.
• A 260-millisecond hover-intent delay, so scanning a long list never flickers.
• Permission-safe: forum view permissions are checked on the server, and hidden threads or restricted forums return nothing at all.
• Snippets are quote- and code-stripped and entity-encoded, so a card can never inject markup.
This is the 2.0 line, rebuilt as a versioned release from the deployed source; the original 1.x archive was not recoverable.

Requirements
- MyBB 1.8.40 is the tested target.
- PHP 8.1 or newer (runtime tested on 8.4.27).
- Thread links in the showthread.php?tid=N form — on boards with SEO URL rewriting, links still match if they keep that form.
- No settings to configure.

1. Back up your files and database first.
2. Upload the archive's contents (inc/, jscripts/, images/ where included) into your MyBB root, keeping the paths.
3. Admin CP → Configuration → Plugins → Install & Activate.

Questions people ask
Can a preview leak a thread I am not allowed to read?
No. Forum view permissions are checked server-side, and restricted or hidden threads return nothing.
Will it hammer the database while I scroll?
No. Each thread is fetched at most once per page view and cached in the browser.
Do previews render images or formatting?
No. They are plain-text snippets, deliberately, so the card can never inject markup.
