A minute count on every post, measured from the actual prose — not the markup.
Members decide whether to start a long thread by looking at it. This puts an honest estimate next to the post: words ÷ 190, rounded up, computed from the real prose.
• Counts post-body text only — quotes and code blocks are excluded so a quoted manual page does not inflate the number.
• Uses browser word segmentation where available, with a Unicode regex fallback for older browsers.
• Hides itself on empty content instead of showing a meaningless zero.
• Updates after observed post additions or a df:posts-updated event.
• No tracking, no external requests, no analytics: it is an estimate of reading time, nothing else.

Requirements

- PHP 7.4 or newer (8.x is fine).

1. Copy inc/plugins/df_readtime.php, jscripts/df_readtime/main.js and jscripts/df_readtime/style.css into your board, keeping the same paths.

Questions people ask
Does it create database tables?
No. It reads what the platform already stores, so there is nothing to migrate or clean up.
Does it edit templates or core files?
No. It runs from hooks, so no core file is modified.
How do I check the file I downloaded?
Every release page prints a SHA-256 checksum. Hash the archive locally and compare — if the two differ, the download is damaged, not the release.
How are updates delivered?
Each version is its own release on this page with a changelog, and the older archive stays available. Install the new one over the old one; your settings and data stay where they are.
