Spam Guard is the moderation layer we run on our own board. It watches the moments most spam slips through — a brand-new account's first posts — and applies rules you can explain to your moderators in one sentence.
What it does:
• Holds posts from accounts younger than X hours (configurable) for moderation instead of publishing them.
• Flags posts that contain more links than a new member should reasonably need.
• Catches duplicate content posted across multiple forums within a short window.
• Writes every action to a plain-language moderation log, so you can see exactly what it did and why.
What it does not do: it does not fingerprint browsers, phone home, or add external calls to your board. Everything runs on your server.

Requirements
- MyBB 1.8.x — the series this release is built for (1.8.38 for the ones we re-tested).
- PHP 7.4 or newer (8.x is fine).

1. Upload inc/plugins/dfspamguard.php to inc/plugins/ on your board, keeping that folder path.
2. Admin CP → Configuration → Plugins → find DF Spam Guard → Install & Activate. Install creates the dfspamguard_log table.
3. Admin CP → Configuration → Settings → DF Spam Guard: held first posts, how many, account age (hours), maximum links, duplicate check, log retention.
4. Log entries are pruned from the Mod CP. Deactivate keeps your settings and rows; Uninstall drops the table and the six settings.

Questions people ask
Does it create database tables?
Yes — dfspamguard_log. Uninstalling drops them, so nothing is left behind.
Does it edit templates or core files?
No. It runs from hooks, so no core file is modified.
How do I check the file I downloaded?
Every release page prints a SHA-256 checksum. Hash the archive locally and compare — if the two differ, the download is damaged, not the release.
How are updates delivered?
Each version is its own release on this page with a changelog, and the older archive stays available. Install the new one over the old one; your settings and data stay where they are.
