One personal welcome message, sent through the board's own private messaging.
The cheapest retention tool there is: a new member receives a message from a real person on the board, in the place they will actually look.
What it gives you:
• Sends a private message on registration using MyBB's PM data handler — quotas and permissions behave exactly like core mail.
• Choose the sender, the subject and the body; {username} and {bbname} tokens are resolved per member.
• Exactly one PM per registration event, and it skips cleanly when disabled or when the subject or body is blank.
• No tables of its own: it uses the standard private message storage your board already has.
This is the 2.0 line, rebuilt as a versioned release from the deployed source; the original 1.x archive was not recoverable.

Requirements
- MyBB 1.8.40 is the tested target.
- PHP 8.1 or newer (runtime tested on 8.4.27).
- Private messaging enabled — the message is delivered into the PM inbox.
- A sender account you are happy to sign the message with (default user id 1).

1. Back up your files and database first.
2. Upload the inc/ folder from the archive into your MyBB root, keeping the paths.
3. Admin CP → Configuration → Plugins → Install & Activate.

Questions people ask
Will it send more than one message if a registration is retried?
No. It fires once per registration event, and skips entirely when the switch is off.
Does it create its own tables?
No. The message goes into your board's standard private message storage.
What if the subject or body is left blank?
Nothing is sent. A blank welcome is treated as disabled rather than mailing an empty message.
